S. Korea's fisheries output up 1.6 percent in H1
South Korea's fisheries output grew 1.6 percent in the
first half of this year from a year earlier thanks to
increased deep-water catches, government data showed
Thursday 21 of August 2014.
Fisheries production amounted to 1.81 million tons in the
January-June 2014 period, up from the previous year's 1.74
million tons, according to data from Statistics Korea.
Deep-water fishing jumped 21.6 percent on-year to 361,000
tons, while fishing farm output shrank 4 percent as
relatively high temperatures in coastal areas hurt the
seaweed harvest, the data showed.
The estimated value of the catches declined from a year
earlier due to more catches of low-priced fish.
